Dr. Cyril Boateng of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) Physics Department has been sworn into office as a member of the newly inaugurated executive of the Ghana Institute of Geoscientists (GhIG), positioning the University at the forefront of national geoscience leadership.
Dr. Boateng joins a 12-member executive tasked with steering the Institute through a new seven-fold strategic agenda focused on professional regulation, industry collaboration, research relevance and continental engagement.
The new executive has prioritised advocacy for the passage of a Geoscience Act, expanded collaboration with agencies such as the Ghana Geological Survey Authority and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, and enhanced mentorship and industrial attachment opportunities for young geoscientists.

The Institute is also preparing to host the 31st Colloquium of African Geology in 2027, a development seen as reinforcing Ghana’s growing influence in the African geoscience community.
